BIO
Influenced by artists such as Washed Out, Ulrich Schnauss and M83, chillpop band Summerheads have been sharing their “super mellow alternative vibe” since the release of debut album, A Better Day. Their songs blend a lush ambient backdrop with strong hooks, melodies and harmonies, all written, performed and recorded by multi-instrumentalist Jon Gilbert, with additional drums by Mike Cairns.
With a name that comes from a favourite Cocteau Twins song, Summerheads started out ten years ago with re-recordings of songs Jon wrote for his previous groups, Nottingham indie band The Bee Hatchers and London-based duo AlphaState, including Something New, Her Great Adventure and Body Beautiful. Over the next decade, they released two E.P.s, Turn To The Sun and Ghosts In The Machine, as well as two further albums, We Are Human and State Of Yearning, music described by Equal Ground as “dreamy, light and effervescent”.
2024 will be a big year for Summerheads with two new mini-albums coming out, companion pieces to 2020’s State of Yearning. State of Shock is a darker collection that deals with grief, uncertainty and loss, embodied in its lead single The Bombs, while State of Grace has a more feelgood, chilled-out vibe: the perfect complement for summer.
